  • Polished boulders like the ones seen here are a common sight on Acadia's beaches. They are tumbled around by the surf, grinding them perfectly smooth to the touch. These particular boulders, however, are located at over 200' above sea level inside a shallow cave, an ancient sea cave that during the last ice age sat sea level and took the brunt of the ocean's force.. • Big surf is fairly common along Acadia's coast. It is best on an incoming high tide but that does not always line up with the first light of the day, to have both along with dramatic clouds was a gift. Acadia National Park, Mount Desert Island, Maine

  • Signs of Acadia's varied geologic history can be found everywhere along the coast or any place with bare, open rock. This intrusion formed after a crack in the bedrock filled with magma. The surf and tides have since smoothed it out. Acadia National Park, Mount Desert Island, Maine.

  • Acadia National Park, Mount Desert Island, Maine. I always wanted an image of a deer on Sand Beach in Acadia National Park. I knew it was possible, I'd found their tracks in the sand many times. What I never expected was that I'd have that opportunity with a buck with a full, mature set of antlers. The deer held almost perfectly still for just a few moments allowing me to use a long exposure that blurred the ocean behind it, adding interest and an unexpected element to the image.
