Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee & North Carolina. There were three cubs in this tree. At first, I was trying to make an image that included all three but wasn't having much success. This section of the tree caught my eye, it had a pleasant shape and was clear of obstructions. Rather than trying to force an image that included the three cubs I concentrated on this branch and waited for one of the young bears to climb across it. My patience paid off. A serendipitous moment happened when the bear's pose echoed for a second the shape of the branches. The image, at that point, became about shape and natural design, which the black and white treatment aids.www.jkputnamphotography.com
