These Boots Have Traveled

Every pair of hiking boots has a soul… two in fact (haha).  My boot’s souls have been worn down.  There is not much traction left and they have grown too tight (it’s more likely that my feet have grown too wide).  While traversing Denali National Park last summer, a place with no trails to follow -relentless and unforgiving for an old pair of boots, I decided that these boots would go on one more trip with me and then get retired.  My recent trip to Glacier National Park in Montana was it.  It was my boot’s last hurrah and it was a great one at that.  Listed below is everywhere my boots traveled to.  If you haven’t been to any of these places take my word for it… it’s quite a list.

  • White Mountains, New Hampshire
  • Denali National Park, Alaska
  • Lamington Rainforest, Australia
  • Flinders Range, Australia
  • Death Valley, California
  • Great Sand Dunes, Colorado
  • Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Colorado
  • Colorado National Monument
  • Dinosaur National Monument, Utah
  • Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado
  • Glacier Bay, Alaska
  • Denali National Park (Again)
  • Glacier National Park, Montana
  • Everywhere in between

But now I have a new pair of boots and a new destination.  I’m leaving in the morning and will be gone for two weeks, and the next time I make one of these lists the first place on it will be TANZANIA.

  1. Grandma per Aunt Betsy says:

How beautiful is today, with Betsy & Buellie visiting. They have come to my nursing home and brought me pictures and blogs [said with a wry smile] done by you, John, in your far-away travels. How far you have gone from Tuckaway Brook. Your writing is as equally enchanting as your pictures. We love you, John.
